Faced with criticism from those who believe the Democratic Party is a betrayal of 'Olive I would say a few things.
The PD is an 'evolution of' Olive, Olive 2.0 a fact. This is demonstrated by the presence among its rows of olive trees and more convinced as Prodi, Fassino and the same Veltroni. L 'Olive has not been able to bring forward his plan of organization of progressive political forces in Italy, was a sign election and failed as a political entity. This is because of some personal responsibility as D'Alema, who in '98 peak while the government and the coalition to become prime minister but perhaps also because they do not fully convinced of the road taken. The Communists instead of this political project did not want to part from the beginning and we have consistently worked against them, first by contributing to the end of the Prodi government in '98 and then trying to get their positions on the Greens and some of the Ds. Do not consider however that only radical and Udeur for convenience have chosen to be part of the center.
The Olive Tree has failed because it has not been able to achieve its purpose because of excessive obstacles in his path. Prodi managed to revive this project with the creation of the list of Democrats and to develop a second phase with the establishment of a real party. A party which has in its purposes, as they believe some of its components (popular), to be a monolithic bloc and represent a 'unique political culture. It aims instead to bring together all the progressive political cultures in Italy and arrange them in order to express an authoritative leadership in a communication system very fast and unavailable to go into detail (because the statute grants members the opportunity to organize themselves into associations to ' internal party positions and to further convince details). Under these conditions the maanchismo Veltroni is absolutely necessary and practical to build a party that aims to achieve 40% of the votes (the world is beautiful because it is different).
The Democratic Party does not aims to standardize the public but simply to represent it, and that is a step forward and we hope that action in the final phase of policy reform that began in 1995, and is primarily a center-left party (purposely no hyphen).
